And So We Woke Them

And so we woke them,

Our Children eager to learn,

Eager to experience a new day,

To learn about our earth and the good people who live here.

We gave them breakfast

and dressed them in school clothes

and sent them off to school

Our children, bright, inquisitive, beautiful, loving.

Eager to learn about the good things we have done

and the wonders of our earth

created a democracy

sent a man to the moon.

They had activities after school

and pets to feed

and homework to do.

And they came home

some in caskets

some so damaged they may never heal

They learned today about darkness and murder

Evil and Inhumanity.

Can we send them to school tomorrow?
