AMBER Not A Gemstone Yet It Is

I love Amber. Amber, the gemstone, has always seemed exotic, mysterious. maybe even unattainable. Because of this, I assumed Amber would be expensive and hard to find, but I was so wrong.

Amber cabochons from Mexico. You can see how beautiful and semi-translucent they are. Some even have small inclusions. Below is one I took off the card, for an up close view.
This is the cabochon that was taken from the card.
This is a side view of the cab

This package of Amber cabs from Mexico are definitely affordable and very exciting. A collection of Amber jewelry made with these cabs will, I believe, become my next passion.

I plan to learn more about Amber and it’s medicinal and healing properties over the next few weeks as I work on my collection, and I hope you’ll follow my blog to learn along with me. I appreciate your comments and suggestions.

NEW ARROWHEAD PENDANT AND MORE FUSED GLASS PENDANTS

New arrowhead Pendant and more Fused glass Pendants

Today, just because it was sitting on my wordbench, I wire wrapped an arrowhead. Never done that before. Arrowheads are very fragile, almost like chalk. Obviously I don’t know anything at all about them. It’s about 2 7/8″ long (including the bail) and 1 5/8″ wide. Because it is so delicate looking, I used a very small wire – 24g – to wrap it. Now that it’s done, I’m not sure what I’ll do with it other that have it sitting on my workbench. I’ll show it to my grandchldren, but they’re almost teenagers and won’t be that interested, I’m sure.

Below are 2 fused glass pendants I wrapped today. One is wrapped with Copper wire, and the second has tarnish resistant silver plated wire. The second is pretty smal so again I used 24g wire to wrap it. I don’t like to have the wire hide the beauty of the colors in the glass.

This unusual and beautiful geode pendant is a comfortable, casual and fashionable accessory for your Spring and Summer wardrobe. The color is a deeper lavender-pink around the perimeter of the stone and a light pink almost white on the inside. Another feature of a geode pendant is that it looks the same on both sides. There is no right or wrong side.

When I make a pendant, I always add a larger bail so that you can wear it with any chain or cord you would like. This bail is large enough so that your clasp from your omega chain will fit through it. The pendant would look really well on an omega or a pink leather cord.

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions or would like to learn more about geodes. I think they are really beautiful stones and love how lightweight they are compared to other natural stones. This lightweight quality makes them perfect for Spring and Summer.

Thank you for looking at my jewelry.

Minimalist Wire Wrapped Geode Pendant

Minimalist style, small, pink geode wire wrapped Jewelry Pendant

Pink Geode Pendant Wire Wrapped in Silver Plated Wire (parawire)

I decided to try wrapping a geode in a minimalist style. This geode is a translucent darker pink around the perimeter and an almost white quartz color around the center. The colors are very Spring like and will look great with Spring and Summer tops. The geode measures 1 1/4″ wide and about 2″ long. It a smaller size pendant. It was very easy to do this wrap, and on Pinterest there are many pictures with instructions.

I like to wrap wire around the bail. It gives the bail more stability and makes the bail an important part of the design. I also like to make a large bail. Even the lobster clasp from an omega chain will fit through the bail giving the wearer a lot of options for a chain or cotton or leather cord although I think a pink leather cord would look really well with this geode.

Here are pictures of the front and back of the geode.

Theoretical New Online Store

Customer Profile for Online Jewelry Store

Customer Profile

So I’m playing a game with myself right now. I’m thinking about opening an online store selling enameled jewelry and fused glass. In my mind there is a convergence between the two. But as I said, for now this is only something that I’m considering theoretically. Below is an example of the kind of enameled jewelry that I think would be beautiful and my customer profile would wear. I believe this designer really has a modern edge to her work. The seller is JewelerSoul and this is on ETSY. Below is a link to her work.

Before I go any further, I have defined my target customer . A woman between 30 and recently retired. She works in a bank or as a teacher or in the financial area, is probably married, may or may not have children and lives in or close to a large city like Washington, DC, or Dallas Texas or Tampa, Fl. She has disposable income, likes to look put-together and enjoys jewelry. She wears casual clothes to work, maybe good jeans or twill pants and a blouse, but not t-shirts. She always wears earrings, usually bracelets, and frequently necklaces or pendants on a chain. Her jewelry is not matchy-matchy. Her earrings are not studs that are barely there, but usually drop from a wire. Her bracelets are not tiny chains with a small gem, but something that can be seen when her arm is visible. Maybe she wears multiple bracelets. Obviously, she likes hand-made and shops from online artisans and when available, craft shows. Casual jewelry in copper or silver is her thing.

This is as far as I’ve gotten so far with my theoretical online shop. I would appreciate your comments. Thank you.
